Inside Blackhats: hacking that actually feels real

Breach from your phone, your laptop, or hand the keyboard to an Operator. Blackhats makes the whole city an attack surface — and hacking the whole game.

Most games treat hacking as a rhythm minigame — line up the nodes, fill the bar, move on. Blackhats deletes the minigame and asks a harder question: what if hacking were the actual game? What if the city were a network, every device a door, and your skill as a hacker the thing that got you through?

Blackhats is an open-world action-adventure where breaching systems is the core loop, not a side dish. You start small, phishing a bored security guard for a badge code. You grow into someone who can walk into a corporate tower on stolen credentials, pivot from the lobby kiosk to the server room, and walk out with something that changes the story. The systems you break are modeled, not mimed — they have real structure, real defenses, and real ways to fail you if you get sloppy.

You hack from wherever you are. Your in-game phone is your everyday tool for quick breaches on the move. Drop into a laptop rig for the serious work, with more power and more ways to get caught. And when the job is too big for one person, Blackhats goes co-op: one player runs the floor while an Operator sits back on the rig, watching cameras, cutting alarms, and talking their partner through a building that is actively trying to lock them out.

The city is the attack surface. Traffic lights, ATMs, drones, apartment smart-locks, the transit grid — if it has a chip, it has a way in, and a consequence for going through it. The world reacts to what you touch. Trip enough alarms and the neighborhood hardens against you. Stay a ghost and doors open that the loud players never see.

Making this believable meant building real systems under the fiction — network topologies, credential trust, intrusion detection that actually detects. It is some of the most technically demanding work in the studio, and it rides on the same shared Righteous foundation that powers our other worlds. Blackhats is deep in development at blackhats.game. The city is waiting. It has no idea you are coming.
